Even

  Marie has a LOT of ways to keep you out in neutral and plenty of ways to outright WIN neutral. She has many good defensive options, but she doesn't do anywhere near as much damage as you do, and you have a few good ways of sniping her out of setting up. Try to focus on shutting her down from setting up when you're fullscreen, and play very reactionary and punish her long whiff recovery moves in the mid/close range.

Neutral


Marie works best in the midrange, be weary when you're in that range. MagatamaP4AU Marie StigmaOfCondemnation.pngGuardAllStartup14RecoveryTotal 41Advantage-7, will catch you out of startup of a lot of your thanatos buttons and specials. Be very careful throwing out your persona, as she can punish it very easily on whiff.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PRESENTS: The chocolate presents activate based around proximity, similar to Naoto's traps. You can run up to one, bait it's activation, then back off before it hits you. Additionally, presents don't have any collision! Meaning that there's times where you can flat out run past them. It's not recommended, but it's good to keep in mind. A and B version of present go straight forward, but SB will follow you around.

Marie will want to pull her Presents out and try to set up. Your best option to call this out is A LaserP4Arena Elizabeth Maziodyne.pngGuardAllStartup23RecoveryTotal 64Advantage-14, as her pulling presents has a LOT of startup. A Maziodyne has enough recovery for Marie to throw out a present, however B LaserP4Arena Elizabeth Maziodyne.pngGuardAllStartup33RecoveryTotal 60Advantage+6 has enough recovery for you to throw it out, then punish Marie pulling present with A Laser.

Be very careful of doing D GarudyneP4Arena Elizabeth Magarudyne.pngGuardAllStartup20RecoveryUntil L+4Advantage-3 in neutral. Marie's 2B is fast enough that she can throw it out and still have time to block garudyne. In addition to this, her moves like 2C, 5C, and even her D buttons can catch you out of it.

In neutral Elizabeth's sweepP4Arena Elizabeth Sweep.pngGuardLowStartup11Recovery11Advantage-7 is really good, due to it completely avoiding 5B and magatama. Use 5CP4Arena Elizabeth 5C.pngGuardAllStartup15Recovery23Advantage-5 VERY carefully, as mentioned above it can be very easy to punish, but it covers a LOT of space. HOWEVER, most of this can be mitigated once you reach awakening, as moves such as A BufudyneP4Arena Elizabeth Magarudyne.pngGuardAllStartup20RecoveryUntil L+4Advantage-3 and LaserP4Arena Elizabeth Maziodyne.pngGuardAllStartup23RecoveryTotal 64Advantage-14 become MUCH better at calling out Marie.

Offense


Offense in this MU is similar to the typical way Liz runs her offensive game, strike/throw with fear mixed in. Marie's fastest button is her 6 frame 5A, but even that can be outspaced by both Elizabeth's 5A and 2A. Be weary whenever Marie has 50 meter, as she can do her Shell SuperP4AU Marie ShellOfDenial.pngGuardAllStartup4+(64 Flash)+3Recovery37+6LAdvantage-17, which can beat certain safejumps.
Be very careful on doing Thanatos pressure against Marie. Marie has a 6 frame 5A that she can jump cancel option select and beat almost every option after 5C except for bufudyne. In the corner, Marie can IB 5C and punish the 2C follow up with a magatama. Watch carefully to see if she's instant blocking or not and adjust accordingly with bufudyne or OMC. If she has over 50 meter she can card super through any followup after 5C even without insant block.

Defense


Marie stagger can be absolutely awful for Elizabeth to deal with. Marie's 2AP4AU Marie 2A.pngGuardLowStartup7Recovery9Advantage-1 and 5AAAP4AU Marie 5AAA.pngGuardAllStartup11Recovery15Advantage-1 leave Marie -1. However Liz's fastest button is 7 Frames (2A), while Marie's is her 6 Frame 5A, leaving it basically neutral on normal block. Additionally, Marie's 5BP4AU Marie 5B.pngGuardAllStartup10Recovery23+9LAdvantage-20 > 5BBP4AU Marie 5BB.pngGuardAllStartup11Recovery8+8LAdvantage-3 string can be difficult to dp as Marie recovers before Elizabeth's dp is active. Where other characters can dp or mash on these strings, Liz has a hard time effectively getting out.
With that being said, INSTANT BLOCK!!! It's your best friend in this MU and sometimes the only way to get out of some of Marie's strings.
Let's talk about some basic staggers to be aware of and how to get out out:
5AAA>5A: IB 5AAA, and you'll be able to mash 5A to beat the stagger.
5AAA>j.CP4AU Marie jC.pngGuardAllStartup13Recovery6Advantage-: If you want to punish this, you'll have to stand block ASAP! If you crouch block, you're left minus regardless of IB! Now if you are stand blocking: don't mash in between 5AAA and j.C, instead IB the last hit of j.C and press 5A to check Marie for mashing on the gap. Additionally, when you instant block 5AAA you can roll out of j.C.
5AAA/5C> Dash cancel: These are the only normals that Marie can dash cancel from, they both leave her -5 on block. Instant block these two normals if you can, then check Marie with your 2A! You can also debilitate it if you know she's going to press a button.

  One of Liz's MOST volatile matchups. Stay patient and break bull when you can, and try to separate Shabrys from the bull. Don't be afraid to be a bit more aggressive here.
Most important thing in this MU is to WATCH THE BULL!!

Neutral


In neutral, Elizabeth actually has a pretty decent time against Shab. A MaziodyneP4Arena Elizabeth Maziodyne.pngGuardAllStartup23RecoveryTotal 64Advantage-14 is one of the best moves in neutral here. It's fast, breaks both bull normally AND Buffalo HammerP4Arena ShLabrys BuffaloHammer.pngGuardAllStartup60Recovery60Advantage-'s increased armor, and not only that, since it's physical it goes through bull and hits Shabrys! Any hit of 5CP4Arena Elizabeth 5C.pngGuardAllStartup15Recovery23Advantage-5 will also break the bull, so take advantage of this.
Stay a little further than midange and pay close attention to what the bull is doing at all times. Shab works in tandem with her tandem with her bull, so she'll use the bull then go in behind it or vice versa.

Shabrys 2C

Most Shabrys will LOVE to use 2CP4Arena ShLabrys 2C.pngGuardAllStartup85Recovery47 [35]Advantage- as their way to get in. Pay attention to if the bull goes under the ground to know when this is happening.
When Shab is using 2C, you have SEVERAL ways to get out of the situation. 2BP4Arena Elizabeth 2B.pngGuardAir UnblockableStartup9Recovery15+10LAdvantage-28 is an amazing button for stuffing Shabrys 2CP4Arena ShLabrys 2C.pngGuardAllStartup85Recovery47 [35]Advantage-, as it's so active that you can do it way in advance, and it would still hit. What also makes this strong is the amount of cancels you get off of this. You can jump cancel, cancel into any of your specials, or j.B to keep shab out!
In response to this, Shab players will toss out Chain KnuckleP4Arena Labrys ChainKnuckle.pngGuardAllStartup15Recovery20~27Advantage-2~-9 in order to catch you doing 2B. In order to beat this, you can do sweepP4Arena Elizabeth Sweep.pngGuardLowStartup11Recovery11Advantage-7 instead of 2B! It'll make you shorter and you still can break bull with a lot of leninency on your timing! You lose your jump cancel but you can now cancel into dp or use any of your grounded specials to catch shabrys as well.
Finally, understand that you don't need to do these options constantly. Sometimes, getting OUT OF THE WAY of 2C is really good as well. Sometimes you will be in spots where 2B and sweep are too slow to counter, so back off when necessary and return the neutral.

Offense


Keep in mind what moves can break bull. STAGGER is extremely important as Shabrys' DPP4Arena ShLabrys BD.pngGuardAllStartup15Recovery42Advantage-24, is guardpoint, so be ready to cancel into your own DP in order to counter this. Be weary of leaving big gaps in your pressure as this DP covers a BIG range.

Defense


Get used to changing the timing of your delay tech timings! Shab on defense is SUPER scary, so get used to at least changing up when you get up so that she has to work a little harder to open you up!
One thing that's very important to note is that without bull, Shadow Labrys' pressure is full of gaps! She NEEDS bull to keep her pressure intact.
