Videl new Meta?
By Kaiokek on August 69th 2020

Videl is one of the meta-defining characters in the current patch, at least in the professional scene, but her netplay popularity is still pretty low in most skill brackets. Today, we would like to highlight the character and why professionals can't get enough of her.

Very Straight Forward

Videl is possibly one of the easiest characters in the game to play. Her links are generous, her moves are all very straight forward and intuitive, and she doesn't have to worry about using reflect since her special dodge replaces it.

Nunc gravida porttitor laoreet. Vestibulum non accumsan metus. Duis efficitur lorem in dictum fringilla. Morbi a molestie felis, nec consectetur elit. Aliquam consequat nunc sed varius placerat. Duis vestibulum velit ac lacus tristique imperdiet. Praesent ut cursus lorem, et placerat elit. Phasellus aliquet tortor orci, porta hendrerit augue euismod at. Duis ultricies condimentum mollis.

Strong Partners

Possibly the most important strength of Videl is how she pairs with  Broly. With Z-Broly and Videl on your team, you have access to 1f left-right mixups, and an unblockable whenever you call Videl assist for Broly. It's awesome. It doesn't end there, however. Videl pairs well with many of the other meta defining characters in this current patch. For example, check out SonicFox's team which he used to get 2nd place to Tarkus Lee at Anime Evo 2021:  point  middle  anchor.

Donec a enim justo.

Nullam tincidunt commodo ipsum at varius. Nulla vitae commodo ex, at rhoncus tortor. Pellentesque efficitur dui pellentesque ligula dapibus finibus. Vivamus egestas convallis semper. Quisque libero nulla, tempus vitae pharetra at, elementum sed ipsum.

Dodge

Videl is certainly an odd case in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Often referred to as the worst character in the game by many, she's a character that bleeds weaknesses that severely hold her back. On top of low damage and somewhat awkward normals, perhaps the most glaring issue is her lack of a Reflect, replaced by a spot-dodge that does not help her in any way, only really giving her access to very specific advantages that can be exploited easily. Videl does struggle in many aspects of DBFZ, but one of the aspects she does not struggle in is her mixups. For all of her shortcomings, Videl is a very strong character when she's able to start mixing people up, especially with assists. She can very much scare people into blocking one way but getting hit the other, and she has solid okizeme all across the screen. This gives Videl some really strong pressure when she can get started, making sure the opponent has to respect her somewhat due to this. While her damage isn't great, her consistent okizeme and ability to set up pressure at least help this a little, giving more opportunities to find this damage and pressure. If Videl gets started, she can mix people up for a very long time. Videl may be an odd choice, but if you like the pressure and underdog status she brings, then she might be the character for you.

The Stats

Not convinced by our opinions? Well, check out these statistics to help back up what we have to say.

Videl has a 40% winrate online at living legend rank, but a 92% pick rate in professional play within the last 3 months. If you exclude mirror matches, in which at least one videl must lose, Videl has a 99.91% winrate. That's insane.
