[CS2] Rachel vs. Carl

Overview

Increased wind mobility and pumpkin are really nice for this match up. You still don't want to get sandwiched between him and Nirvana though as Carl has many mixups that are very hard to block. Having rods out can also prove to be annoying for Carl.

-things to be careful of: fuoco, volante

*you dont want to get hit by OR block fuoco, instead super jump if carl isnt near, or backdash if you're far enough

*volante can be stopped with most of your projectiles, 236a is good

midscreen

-things to watch:5b, getting sandwiched

*5b is jcable and goes into lows. it also leads into the crossup. be vigilant

*being sandwiched is VERY bad (you'll probably die if he hits you at this point). be prepared to block alot. be wary of:

*(carl filler, jump) 6[d] - can do a high or empty low

*2[d] (carl filler) 2b(2[d] hits) - yay unblockables

Another thing that works with carl is targeting Nirvana. Shoot lobelas at nirvana and perform sword iris until she is inoperable. After that rush Carl down and pull off the biggest combos you can until she comes back. Once she is gone it's easy winning since he has such low health.

I thought we had this more fleshed out than we appear to.

Basic concepts:

- Zone Carl when possible. High-angle lobelia tend to actually reach Carl, while low-angles will bounce off Nirvana and land in front of her. Use that as you see fit.

- Pumpkin can be considered significantly less useful in this matchup. It can't stun Nirvana, and it will rarely reach Carl intact.

- George is still good for applying pressure and getting you out of pressure. Remember that Carl has a lot of ways to kill George, though.

- 6B. This move is your friend. Poke Nirvana with it every time she activates. If she uses a move that she cannot be hit out of, jump cancel and dodge/block/shoot a lobelia/hit Carl out of his air approach/etc.

- 5B. Works the same way as 6B, but with shorter range.

Whenever you see Fuoco (Nirvana's "command dash" attack) on a neutral position, always super jump forward with wind to get to the other side of the screen. Carl will most likely follow Nirvana when she performs it, so it resets the situation to neutral once again. He also can't really stop you from jumping in that angle.

Be also aware that you can't jump on him recklessly. He has a really good anti air (at least against Rachel) and you don't want to get hit by anything Carl has since it will most likely result in a sandwich or corner situation where you'll die.

Tempest Dhalia is a no-go in this match-up unless Nirvana is dead or behind carl. She can Fuoco you for free during it. The damage she takes is not worth the risk.

On a random note, always instant block his gear super. It's braindead easy to do and you get tons of heat for it. :psyduck:
